Feeling lost? Here are 6 no BS reasons why a spiritual journey will help you deal with life

A spiritual journey is the art of asking the right questions.

You get to a point in life where you start wondering a bit about the meaning of everything. Why you are here, is there a purpose in life? Is there a secret mission from the universe that you have to accomplice? All this along with many other daily life questions, problems, distractions, and life events regarding relationships, work, ethics, environmental crisis, the stock market, and everything else. Creates such an overwhelming feeling, which is sometimes hard to deal with. I mean, where do you even start? Well, I am glad you asked.

First things first. What the f**k is a spiritual journey?

A spiritual journey begins when you start questioning the world around you and its predisposed ideas. Such as the idea that you have to go to college, get a job, work your ass off, and die.

Basically, it’s a way of figuring out what you want to do with the rest of the time you have left. Who you want to be, and not what others think you are. What is most valuable to you, and what makes you feel content with life.

A common association people have with spirituality is that it is about some sort of religion. But spirituality has nothing to do with religion. I mean, it could be somewhat religious, if you’re into that, but it doesn’t have to. Religion tries to establish and cement a world of ideas. Whereas a spiritual journey is all about escaping this fixed world.

Okay, when do we start?

Don’t think of it as a journey with a beginning and a fixed end. If you’re reading this, chances are, you might already have started your journey. And it could last for as long as you want to, even the rest of your life, as long as you are enjoying it.

The journey begins when you feel the need to change things. When some aspects of your life don’t serve you anymore, and you summon the courage to start an investigation on how to improve things.

You don’t need to have a fixed destination for this journey. But it helps to think of what is not making you happy in your current life situation and imagine what do you want it to be like in the future.

Heal from the trauma and insecurities

We’ve all been through some rough patches in our lives, but thankfully we are still here. The problem is that often there is a lot of emotional weight that we are carrying around our lives. A weight that does not allow us to live our lives freely and shows up in situations that trigger our past experiences. These insecurities are a result of us not being able to let the past go. During your spiritual journey, you will learn that these feelings and insecurities are not part of your identity. They serve no purpose, and therefore you can let them go. By focusing on the present and not on what happened in the past, we are able to accept what happened, forgive, and let it go. There is a tremendous feeling of peace that arises when you go through that experience.

Reduce fear and anxiety

Anxiety is affecting everyone and it is a result of the egoic state of mind. This inner critic never seems to shut up, especially when we want to. One of the benefits of leading a spiritual life is raising your state of awareness. Usually through meditation. Which is just a simple technique to teach your mind to live in the present moment and not focus too much on the past or the future. Once you remove the future from the equation and you focus on the now, you can simply ask yourself. Is there a reason to feel anxious at this very moment? Taking a moment to step back, breathe, and realize that most likely you are not in a life-threatening situation, will make you lead a much more relaxing life.

Improve the quality of your relationships

Being able to focus more on your inner self, cutting through the egoic voices in your head, will make you understand what is most valuable for you in your relationships with the people in your life. Creating more awareness in life will help you whenever a certain feeling arises within you every time you are having an argument with someone. Also, being very aware of your needs, what brings you peace, and what values you seek from other people allows you to re-evaluate and build better relationships. Knowing what you are looking for and having a strong inner core of values, will serve as a filter for all those toxic relationships that just add drama to your life.

Build resilience

One of the more important benefits of going through that kind of journey is developing something that almost feels like a superpower. The awareness and gratitude you gradually create around your life will make you see things very differently. Certain situations won’t have the power anymore to annoy you or disturb your peace. As long as you are deeply rooted in your energy you will see that nothing can shake you. As most of the things that annoy us are simply stuff that the ego is occupied with, disidentifying with it will help you see things more clearly and approach situations with a lighter attitude.

Redefine work and what work means for you

Work is the conversion system of our society. You put your energy into your work and one byproduct of that is value — a value of goods or services that ideally benefits the society — and money for you in order to survive. What “work” is for you is totally up to you, and that is something not everyone realizes in life. Our educational system is built to create workers that will work in businesses to create value. Once you begin your journey this model will probably seem almost insane to you and you will want to re-assess how you create your income in life. This is one of the most creative parts of the journey, as you feel intense freedom to all the opportunities life has to offer.

Lead a more purposeful and healthy life

A great realization that will take part in your journey is the fact that there is not one single way to live your life and to be happy. We live in a one-size-fits-all culture that tells us a story of how people should live, and if you’re not living your life in this way you are going to be miserable. Well, that didn’t age very well. Most of the misery in our lives comes exactly from what popular culture teaches us. Once this fact becomes so apparent, there is nothing else to do apart from asking one question to yourself. Is this for me? If the answer is no, then you have taken the first step into building your own life, a life that will most likely set you free from a lot of pain that our society is going through.

So what are you waiting for?
